Role: Tuen Hiu Sing
Age: approximately 26
Characteristics: Rebellious and often does his own thing without regard for other people’s feelings. He is the only son of Tuen Tai Bak - the leader of the top ranked Chong Long Sect, but Hiu Sing doesn’t look after any of the Sect’s business. He feels that as long as his father is the leader, he doesn’t need to look after it, even though in his heart he deeply respects his father. He is very smart and has a physique which is perfect for learning kung fu. With his natural talent he is able to learn kung fu quite well. However, as he doesn’t want to practice more, he is unable to push himself to the next level. He likes the Western culture, therefore his physical appearance and thinking is quite different to traditional Chinese ways. He loves the carefree life, without any worries. He has been spoiled since childhood, so he is quite arrogant and doesn’t want to admit defeat. As he is handsome and polite, many girls fall for him. Even though he likes the attention, when he meets the right person he is very committed, and will love her with all his heart.
Background & Storyline: Despite his father’s objections, he studies music in Shanghai and loves the Western arts/culture. One day, he meets Ji Kwai (Myolie Wu) by accident who was unconscious on the road. He rescues her and and takes her to the doctor. Ji Kwai was so shocked she was temporarily unable to speak, and couldn’t even remember who she was. At the same time he receives the news that his father is ill. Even though he knows that the news is not true and was made up by his uncle (not literally uncle, but his father and Yung Bak Chuen have the same teacher) so he would go home, but he feels guilty for being away for so long, so he decides he would go back home. But he couldn’t leave Ji Kwai behind, so he takes her to Beijing as well.
Hiu Sing had organised Ji Kwai to stay with him at the Chong Long Sect. His father was not pleased, but his “uncle” Bak Chuen even views Ji Kwai as a major obstacle in Hiu Sing’s development. So to impress his father and his uncle, Hiu Sing decided he would represent the Chong Long Sect and enter a kung fu competition. In this competition, he meets the person who will be his lifelong enemy - Mo Ma (Vincent Zhao). Even though Hiu Sing had the upper hand, but at the crucial moment, he was distracted by something relating to Ji Kwai. So he was accidentally beaten by Mo Ma. This has bought shame to the Chong Long Sect, his father now thinks he only cares about chasing girls, and gets even more angry.
While Hiu Sing was trying very hard to find out about Ji Kwai’s past, he meets the head of police Chai Wai. Chai Wai forces Ji Kwai to marry the son of the deputy mayor, who has TB. So to help Ji Kwai, Hiu Sing lies that Ji Kwai is her counsin so Chai Wai can’t force her to marry. By now Hiu Sing has already fallen in love with Ji Kwai, so he will risk everything to protect her.
In the competition, the winner of the fight between Hiu Sing and Mo Ma had not been truly determined. So Mo Ma finds Hiu Sing to challenge him again. Unexpectedly, Hiu Sing’s brother Ma Keung (again, not literally “brother”, but in the kung fu sense) had secretly planned an attack on Mo Ma, which made Mo Ma very angry and forcefully entered the forbidden grounds of the Chong Long Sect. There he meets Tai Bak and a fight started. Mo Ma was definitely not a match for Tai Bak but Tai Bak had practiced too much and suddently died. Hiu Sing doesn’t know the details and blames Mo Ma for his father’s death. So he leads his Sect to try and kill Mo Ma. Afterwards Hiu Sing finds out that his father’s death was not Mo Ma’s fault and realises he had blamed the wrong person.
After Tai Bak’s death, the fight for the position of leading the Sect is between Hiu Sing and Ma Keung. To ensure that Hiu Sing becomes the new leader, Yung Bak Chuen persuades Ma Keung to let Hiu Sing win. In the end, Hiu Sing successfully becomes the new leader of the Chong Long Sect. But Hiu Sing later discovers the truth, and decides he will fight against Ma Keung again so he can be the true leader. Even though Hiu Sing wins the fight, he still could not gain the acceptance of Ma Keung. The other disciples didn’t have faith in Hiu Sing either. To regain the confidence of his Sect, Hiu Sing decides to fight against Mo Ma again, and finally wins.
