The silver path (entertainment industry) that is the glistening river, it sparkles but flows quickly which people can easily get lost. Many people are fighting in this path, going with and against the tide. When you’re in the path, it’s not easy to make decisions. The Lam Fung we see today is travelling with ease in this silver path, in the past he has had some difficult times, but who had noticed?

Wind & Rain | Coming from the opposite direction | Accept with ease
At the day of the interview, it was this year’s first storm. It was never expected that it came with such strong winds, even with the category 3 storm the wind will break umbrellas. We fought against the strong winds, looking disorganised and all our clothes were wet as we rushed to the studio. Looking outside from the window there was a hint of worry that the interview might not go ahead. Within moments, Lam Fung had arrived amongst the wind and rain looking relaxed. Under the shining studio lights, his tanned skin glistened, his eyes appeared more lively, his expression was full of self confidence. In contrast, I felt somewhat guilty.

Under the wind and rain, fighting against the tide had made me very disorganised. However, it was as if nothing happened to Fung. “This kind of wind and rain is nothing, we have experienced a lot of these when filming. With light rains we would still rush to finish filming, the most important is to be in character, as long as someone likes my work then it’s ok.” With a smile he brushes past the wind and rain, his acceptance of the difficult decision had surprised me. Has the entertainment industry made him experience many difficult situations?

Jumping into the path against the tide
Lam Fung’s father owns a property development business in China. As for him, he studied architecture in the USA. His life should’ve been an easy path, if he is willing, he could be the prince of the social pages. However, he chose to enter the entertainment industry. In other people’s eyes, they think that it is a hobby as he is bored, but he started at the TVB acting class. If you have the chance to rewatch “At the threshold of an era”, you will discover that Fung has acted as a prison guard – an extra. He has also acted as a dead person, or a passerby. Now we understand he didn’t achieve what he has today easily.

In the midst of the easy and difficult path
Many years later, today Fung is one of the most popular actors on TV and is busy filming HOG 2. He even released his first album after waiting many years. His success seems to be what is expected, and everything happened smoothly. If he doesn’t mention it, maybe we won’t know that he had endured hard times to become who he is today. Fung said, “I’m very lucky and have the support of many colleagues and friends. In my view, my life has been quite smooth, I don’t feel there had been many obstacles. Especially in recent years, so in this smooth path I would like to thank everyone who has believed in me.” He knows how to share his success with people around him, this humble nature and maturity makes people’s heart rejoice. (I am not sure whether this is exactly what the words mean though!) He has fought amongst the path with or against the tide, “My attitude in any situation is the same, the most important is to control your emotions. Maybe I am naturally optimistic, if I can resolve two problems out of ten in a day that would already be good. The most important is to know how to enjoy life, and find enjoyable moments during work.”

The difficulties shown on his face
When he said ‘finding enjoyable moments during work’ Fung’s expression in his eyes show that he is serious. But when we were taking a photo of him lying on the floor, he closed his eyes and I can even see he would’ve liked to fall asleep right there. After the interview, he still had to continue filming at 8pm. Looks like he can’t avoid having no sleep for the whole night. His skin is also facing the consequences of his backwards flowing life. “Not having enough sleep has definitely caused my skin condition to fall in a straight line. The most important is to drink more water, replenishing the skin’s moisture levels to strengthen its defences. I will also eat honey extracts, then I will feel more awake, skin will also improve.

Acceptance of changes
During our chat, Fung was like any other 20 something guy, and was lazy about taking care of his skin. He was also afraid of having facials, “Troublesome!”. He also avoided beauty salons! But facing an era of high definition television, the world is changing so the skin has to change as well. “I cannot rely on being young anymore, now I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, clean my face regularly, and keep the moisture levels up. Every week or fortnight I will put on a mask at home, to keep myself in good shape.” In the age of HD-tv, it doesn’t allow for a pimple and an oily face. Especially during Spring/Summer, when you’re outdoors for half and hour, all the oil in your face will surface! “Depending on the weather, when we’re filming we will carry blotting paper with us to use. Sometimes we will even remind others to use them, ha!” Facing the choice of different blotting papers, Fung has his own opinions and philosophies, “I will choose paper based blotting papers, as it’s more gentle. Because the more oil you absorb the more oil the skin will produce, need to match it with your skin condition.”

From Fung’s skin care philosophies, we can see how his own philosophy affect his life. No matter what the changes are, he is still very calm. “Do the best you can, don’t need to worry and care too much.” Fung’s ending words, then he gets up, opens the door, and walked towards the streets amongst the wind and rain. These little obstacles is only brightening his life.
